Veteran Bengali filmmaker Raja Sen has been admitted to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata in critical condition. According to film industry sources, the 70-year-old director is currently on ventilation and remains under close medical observation. Sen, known for films including ‘Atmiyo Sajan’ and ‘Laboratory’, has been dealing with several health-related complications over the past few years. His latest condition has raised concern within the Bengali film fraternity.
Health complications have persisted for years
According to PTI, the filmmaker’s health problems reportedly became more serious following an accident on the set of his film ‘Maya Mridanga’. Sen suffered a significant back injury after falling during the shoot several years ago. Although the injury did not initially appear to be severe, it gradually affected his mobility, according to an industry source familiar with his health. Over time, the filmmaker’s physical condition continued to require medical attention.
Neurological condition led to surgery
Earlier this year, Sen reportedly developed weakness in the lower part of his body. Subsequent medical tests revealed a complicated neurological condition. Following the diagnosis, he underwent major surgery in February. The procedure reportedly brought some improvement in his condition initially. However, his health has deteriorated again in recent days, prompting his current hospitalisation.

Sen’s latest health setback has left his family and colleagues concerned.
