‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ is generating strong interest ahead of its theatrical release, on Friday, September 4, with the film’s Day 1 advance bookings indicating the possibility of a double-digit opening at the box office.According to Sacnilk, the film has recorded an estimated Rs 9.18 crore in advance bookings across India for its opening day. The Hindi version accounts for the majority of the total, with advance bookings estimated at Rs 9.14 crore. The Telugu version, on the other hand, has contributed approximately Rs 3.84 lakh.Including blocked seats, the film’s advance collection stands at an impressive Rs 12.54 crore, indicating a strong start for the film’s theatrical adaptation following the popularity of the OTT series.Delhi has emerged as the leading market in terms of advance bookings, contributing approximately Rs 2.27 crore. Uttar Pradesh follows with Rs 1.85 crore, while Maharashtra has recorded around Rs 1.84 crore in advance bookings.The numbers suggest that ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ could be on course to become one of the notable OTT-to-theatre success stories, with the popularity of the series potentially translating into strong box office numbers and high footfalls.Ahead of its release, the film also received its CBFC certification with reportedly minimal modifications, allowing the makers to retain much of the raw and unfiltered tone associated with the franchise.Pankaj Tripathi, who reprises his popular role as Kaleen Bhaiya, recently spoke about the difference between experiencing Mirzapur on streaming and watching it with an audience in theatres. “Whenever a performance or art form is experienced communally, the impact changes entirely. Enjoying it in a group creates a unique, shared experience. So, while Mirzapur used to be a “leave me alone” kind of watch, it’s now in “party mode.” The world is the same, the characters are the same, but the story is new, and the experience is much grander,” he said.Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ brings back several familiar faces from the acclaimed series, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Harshita Gaur.The theatrical film also introduces new additions to the franchise, including Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan.
