Allu Arjun congratulated director Sukumar after he won the Best Original Screenplay award for their 2024 blockbuster ‘Pushpa: The Rule’ at the 72nd National Film Awards. The actor shared a sweet message reflecting how both he and the filmmaker have now won National Awards for the ‘Pushpa’ franchise.

He took to his X handle to write, “Heartfelt congratulations to my director @aryasukku garu! Been awaiting this moment. This award means as much to me as mine. In the end, both of us got National Awards for #PUSHPA. Grateful.”For the unversed, Allu Arjun previously won the Best Actor award at the 69th National Film Awards for ‘Pushpa: The Rise’. He became the first Telugu actor to win the honour in the category.
‘Pushpa’ franchise’s National Film Awards
The ‘Pushpa’ franchise has now won four National Film Awards across its two films.‘Pushpa: The Rise’ won Allu Arjun the Best Actor award and also brought home the Best Music Director honour for Devi Sri Prasad. ‘Pushpa: The Rule’ has now added Best Original Screenplay for Sukumar and Best Costume Design to the franchise’s tally.
About ‘Pushpa’ franchise
Talking about ‘Pushpa’, the first part shows Allu Arjun’s character Pushpa Raj’s rise from a daily wage worker to the red sanders smuggling trade boss. The sequel released in 2024 continued his story and explored his growing influence, personal relationship with Srivalli and conflict with his nemesis.The franchise features Rashmika Mandanna in the female lead as Srivalli and Fahadh Faasil as inspector Bhanwar Singh Shekawat.The first part made over Rs. 350 crore worldwide, while the second part saw huge glory minting over Rs. 1,742.10 crore worldwide, as per Sacnilk.The makers have announced a third part which will be named, ‘Pushpa 3: The Rampage’ which is currently in the early stages of development.Meanwhile, Allu Arjun is busy with his next film ‘Raaka’ with Atlee and director Sukumar will be working with ‘RRR’ star Ram Charan for his next, tentatively called, ‘RC17’.
Other National Film Awards
The 72nd National Film Awards also recognised several other films and performers. Yami Gautam won Best Actress for ‘Article 370’, while Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty shared the Best Actor honour for ‘Chandu Champion’ and ‘Bramayugam’.
