AR Rahman is bringing together several of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars and musicians to pay homage to legendary singer Asha Bhosle‘s incredible legacy. After earlier thanking Shah Rukh Khan for being part of his tribute music video, the Oscar-winning composer has now thanked Salman Khan as well for joining the project. The tribute, titled “Asha Forever,” was originally conceptualised by Rahman during Asha Bhosle’s lifetime, with plans to present it to her personally.

Taking to X, AR Rahman thanked Salman for being part of the tribute music video dedicated to Asha Bhosle. In a heartfelt note, the composer wrote, “A heartfelt thank you to dear @BeingSalmanKhan for agreeing to being part of Asha Bhosle ji’s tribute music video. Your affection for Asha ji and your generosity in celebrating her extraordinary legacy make this moment incredibly special.”
AR Rahman had earlier thanked Shah Rukh Khan too
Rahman had previously extended a similar note of thanks to SRK, appreciating the superstar for graciously agreeing to be part of the project. “A heartfelt thank you to dear Shah Rukh Khan for graciously agreeing to be part of Asha Bhosle ji’s tribute music video,” Rahman wrote. He had earlier revealed that Kamal Haasan too would be featured in the video.Rahman had originally dreamt up Asha Forever while Bhosle was still with us, hoping to one day present it to her personally. After she passed away, he decided to see the project through, shaping it into a heartfelt tribute to her remarkable musical legacy. He recently unveiled a teaser giving fans a glimpse of the tribute, sharing what inspired its making.

In the note, Rahman spoke about how legendary musicians manage to transcend generations, languages and geographical boundaries. He referred to Asha as an artist whose voice became woven into the soundtrack of countless lives, adding that uniting different musicians, traditions and sounds felt like the truest way to pay tribute to her. Rahman wrote, “This tribute began as a dream while Asha Bhosle ji was still with us. We had hoped she would witness the love and gratitude this project carries.” He went on to describe the project as his humble offering to Asha, expressing hope that her music would go on inspiring audiences for years to come.
Asha Bhosle passed away in April 2026
Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, at 92, after suffering multiple organ failure. Her demise took away one of the most influential voices Indian music has ever known. Across a career spanning several decades, she recorded songs in a multitude of Indian languages. She was laid to rest with full state honours at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park.
