If the 2.3-acre waterfront compound sells near the asking price, it could set a record for Pacific Northwest residential real estate. Lake Washington home is up for sale
In 2008, the Clarks purchased a 1.2-acre waterfront compound in Hunts Point, Bellevue, Washington, for $4.9 million. They tore down the old cottage on the property and constructed a roughly 9,600-square-foot residence. About a decade later, they bought an adjacent 1.12-acre property for roughly $8 million, where they built a second home designed specifically as a wellness retreat.The couple had a unique vision for their home. Dwayne, 67, founder and CEO of senior-living company Áegis Living, and Terese, 66, a retired trauma nurse, wanted to create a space that reflected their shared love of travel, wellness and Italy. People raised eyebrows when they built a piazza, an open courtyard enclosed on four sides and a feature of Italian architecture, at their waterfront home in Bellevue. The structure didn’t make sense to some, as it is in one of Washington state’s rainiest neighbourhoods. “People said, ‘No one has piazzas in Seattle,’” Terese told the WSJ. But they did it anyway. The partly sheltered space allows them to enjoy the outdoors even when it is raining, and according to Dwayne, the piazza creates its own warmer ‘microclimate’. The couple’s affection for Italy drove many of the design choices across their Hunts Point property. Over nearly 20 years, they acquired furnishings and décor from their travels, layering the European aesthetic into what would become their waterfront sanctuary. Over the two decades, the couple has invested about $50 million. “What we’ve tried to do is create our own Four Seasons resort,” Dwayne said.Despite putting a lot of effort into their waterfront homes, the Clarks are now moving to a sunnier climate. They are hoping to relocate to Arizona, and Dwayne also plans to retire from his role this year. They have listed their Bellevue home for sale.If the sale closes near the $71 million asking price, it would establish a record for the region, listing agents Jay Kipp of Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty and Haleh Clapp of Compass told the publication. Jeff Bezos sold his Hunts Point mansion last year for $63 million, Kipp pointed out.
