Varun Dhawan chooses Ranveer Singh in 'Dhurandhar' over Ranbir Kapoor in 'Animal': 'The only flex that one should do is with your work'

Varun Dhawan has picked Ranveer Singh’s performance as Hamza Ali Mazari in ‘Dhurandhar’ over Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Ranvijay Singh in ‘Animal’. The actor made his choice during his appearance on the latest episode of ‘Koffee With Karan’, where host Karan Johar asked him to choose between the two performances. Without much hesitation, Varun said, “I would definitely say Ranveer in Dhurandhar.”The conversation also prompted Varun to reflect on an earlier appearance on the chat show, when he proudly spoke about his string of box office successes. Looking back, the actor admitted that the remark may have jinxed his run and said he now believes an actor’s work should speak for itself. The admission came during the third episode of Season 9, which featured Varun alongside Janhvi Kapoor, with Arjun Kapoor making a surprise appearance. “The only flex that one should do is with your work,” he said. “I feel many years back I came here and flexed about how many hits I had and somewhere it jinxed me.”Varun was referring to his appearance on ‘Koffee With Karan’ Season 6 in November 2018. When Karan Johar asked him if he would swap careers with Ranbir Kapoor or Ranveer Singh, the actor pointed to his own commercial success as a reason not to. “They haven’t had what I had. I’ve had eight hits in a row,” he said.Having made his acting debut with Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the Year’, alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, Varun was enjoying a successful run at the box office. His streak included films such as ‘Main Tera Hero’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, ‘Badlapur’, ‘ABCD 2’, ‘Dilwale’, ‘Dishoom’, ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ and ‘Judwaa 2’.However, the years that followed brought a more uneven run for the actor. Films such as ‘Kalank’, ‘Street Dancer 3D’, ‘Coolie No. 1’ and ‘JugJugg Jeeyo’ received mixed responses commercially, bringing an end to the consecutive-hit streak he had once highlighted on the show.Meanwhile, Ranbir and Ranveer continued to deliver major box office successes. Ranbir’s filmography included ‘Brahmastra’, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ and ‘Animal’, while Ranveer’s ‘Dhurandhar’ emerged as a significant commercial success. Ranbir will next be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’.
