They wouldn't be cast even as tea supplying boys': Ram Gopal Varma mocks shooters in Tiger Shroff firing case

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma drew attention online with his remarks about the alleged shooters involved in the firing incident targeting Tiger Shroff‘s car. Comparing real-life criminals with their fictional counterparts, Ram Gopal Varma said the men would not even be considered for minor roles in a film featuring a villain’s gang.

Ram Gopal Varma comments on shooters’ appearance

In a post on X, Ram Gopal Varma questioned whether the alleged shooters’ appearance would make them suitable for even minor characters in a gangster film. He used the example of tea suppliers in a villain’s hideout to make his point.“The way the shooters of @iTIGERSHROFF looked, in a film they wouldn’t be cast even as tea-supplying boys in a villain’s den,” he wrote. Ram Gopal Varma extended his comparison by referring to Dawood Ibrahim, one of India’s most notorious gangsters. He suggested that a person who resembles the real-life figure might not necessarily be chosen to portray him in a film. The filmmaker also tagged casting director Mukesh Chhabra while commenting on the unpredictable nature of selecting people for real-life and fictional roles. Varma summed up his observation by contrasting the two approaches to casting. “Real-life casting director is very strange compared to a reel-life casting director,” Ram Gopal Varma added.

Social media users share their reactions

Ram Gopal Varma’s comments received several responses from social media users. One user wrote, “Casting directors cast what they can sell, not what exists. Bollywood’s gangster is always in a suit and a beard, but the real ones look like your local cable guy.” Another user wrote, “You at least show some real-life incidents in your films, but most directors are cowards by nature.” Another one wrote, “Making things larger than life and exaggerating even smaller things has always been a part of movie making..” Another comment read, “Screening, performance remuneration, and… audience acceptance are highly variable…from reel to real ….”

Ram Gopal Varma previously questioned the motive behind the firing

The filmmaker had earlier reacted to the incident involving Tiger Shroff, describing it as an unusual case. Ram Gopal Varma speculated that vanity and pride could have motivated the alleged attackers, rather than extortion, contract killing or personal disputes. “What happened with @iTIGERSHROFF is a never before seen phenomenon. Instead of killings relating to extortion, contract murders, settlements etc, for the first time ever, they seem to be wanting to kill for vanity and pride,” Varma wrote on X. The firing took place on October 19 outside a football club near Pushpa Narsee Park in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Tiger Shroff was unharmed, while his driver and an autorickshaw driver sustained injuries during the incident.According to IANS, three people suspected of involvement were subsequently apprehended in Kota, Rajasthan.
