‘Student Of The Year 3’ to be a web series, not a film
According to Bollywood Hungama, there are some key differences setting this instalment apart. While ‘Student Of The Year’ (2012) and ‘Student Of The Year 2’ (2019) were theatrical releases, the third part will instead be a web series. The tone is also shifting dramatically, where the first two films leaned into light, candyfloss-style entertainment, ‘Student Of The Year 3’ takes a much darker, edgier and more intense route.The show is reportedly being shaped as a Class-meets-Euphoria hybrid, merging the high-stakes, privileged campus world and tangled relationships of Netflix’s Class with the raw, provocative and emotionally charged storytelling style of Euphoria. This tonal shift is expected to catch viewers off guard, given how different the conflicts and genre will feel compared to the earlier films. With edgy, youth-centric content increasingly finding takers across global markets, the format could also help the franchise reach a wider audience.

Reportedly, ‘Student Of The Year 3’ is expected to release this year, on JioHotstar. While earlier reports suggested the show could be titled ‘Student Of The Year 3 – After The Dark’, this may not necessarily be the final name; the official announcement will bring more clarity on that front.‘Student Of The Year 3’ is being directed by Reema Maya, with reports suggesting a double role for Shanaya Kapoor in the series. The franchise’s journey began with the first film, directed by Karan Johar, which served as the launchpad for Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra. Punit Malhotra later took charge of ‘Student Of The Year 2’, which starred Tiger Shroff and introduced Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria to Bollywood, with Alia featuring in a special song appearance.
