Mohanlal and Priyadarshan‘s evergreen Malayalam classic ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ is set to return to theatres worldwide. The 1994 film will get a global re-release on October 8 with upgraded technical quality. The release date was announced through Shobana‘s official social media page.Written and directed by Priyadarshan, the film stars Mohanlal, Shobana, and Nedumudi Venu in prominent roles. ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’s memorable characters, including Manikyan, Karthumbi, and Sreekrishnan Thampuran continue to be remembered even after three decades.
‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ returns to theatres
‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ originally hit theatres in 1994 and brought together romance, comedy, rural charm, and memorable music. The upcoming theatrical version has undergone a restoration process to improve its technical quality, as reported by Reporter website. The film was scanned from the original 35mm print using 4K technology. The film’s music and sound have also been enhanced for its return to theatres. The restored version has been mixed in Dolby Atmos.
National and Kerala State Film Awards
‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ received several honours in the year of its original release. In 1994, K. V. Anand won the National Film Award for cinematography. Sabu Cyril also received the National Film Award for production design for the film. ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ further received recognition at the Kerala State Film Awards.
Mohanlal and Shobana lead memorable cast
Mohanlal, Shobana, and Nedumudi Venu played the prominent roles in the film. Sreenivasan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Sukumari, Kuthiravattam Pappu, Sankaradi, Geetha Vijayan, and Sonia were also part of the principal cast. The movie was written and directed by Priyadarshan.On the other hand, Mohanlal and Priyadarshan’s last collaboration was the epic actioner ‘Kunjalimarakkar,’ which received mixed reviews from audiences. Mohanlal was also seen in a small cameo appearance in Priyadarshan’s recent film ‘Haiwaan,’ which was a remake of the Malayalam thriller ‘Oppam’.
