Meet Alex Sunny, American woman going viral on TikTok for her intention to relocate to Afghanistan for husband she met on Snapchat
A TikTok account in the name of Alex Sunny claims to be a 26-year-old American woman who will be going to Afghanistan to live with her husband.

Alex Sunny, a 26-year-old American truck driver, has suddenly become a viral sensation on TikTok for her long-distance love story, for which she now wants to relocate to Afghanistan permanently. As her Afghan husband can’t come to the US because of the US travel ban, she will be relocating this year August, she claimed. Her claims are not verified and the account started becoming popular only recently — triggering justified concerns over the veracity of her identity and story.Sunny claimed she has dual U.S.-Jordanian citizenship through her Jordanian father and American mother from Kentucky. She met her husband on Snapchat in July 2024 and their first in-person meeting was in December 2024. They got married but did not spend much time with each other. After the announcement, the viral TikTok account started taking questions as well. “I haven’t seen my husband in almost two years, so I’m just going to go where he’s at because he can’t come to where I’m at,” she said adding that she plans to live with him and his family, learn about Afghan history and culture, try local food, and respect local customs and traditions.Sunny has addressed multiple concerns raised in comments on her videos. She claimed that her husband’s aunt attends a gym and clarified her understanding of social and travel norms in the country. She has also highlighted her half-Jordanian background as part of her perspective on the move. Many social media users called her a plant by Taliban PR while many doubted that she is not even a real person. As Sunny’s story took the social media platform by storm, with a majority warning her against relocating to Afghanistan, a TikTok user who claimed to have worked with Afghan advocacy groups said there could be four possible reasons why Sunny would move to Afghanistan. The woman said Sunny must be thinking she would be given special status in Afghanistan as she’s an American. The husband could be a Taliban official, the woman said, conjecturing that these videos might be a PR initiative by the Taliban. She added that Sunny might be thinking that she’s secure as she is viral now.Others, however, dismissed Sunny’s videos as mere rage-baiting and engagement farming.
