Speaking to Galatta Plus, K. Venkat Narayana called Jana Nayagan’s release journey a “challenging” one. “Making the film was an easier process. We went through a lot of hardships for reasons unknown to us even today. But we’ve put this behind us. Once we got the certificate, our only goal was to bring every stakeholder on board, from exhibitors to distributors. Worldwide, there were many prominent releases, but we wanted a date when audiences could enjoy and celebrate it, especially because this is Vijay’s last film,” he said.Reflecting on the film’s performance, he added, “For what it has gone through, especially with the censor-related delays and piracy, the film has been doing well. If it had released during the Pongal holidays or after the elections, during the summer vacation, the results would have been very different. However, the reception we have been getting has been truly amazing.” He further credited Vijay’s popularity, saying, “Vijay’s stardom, his magic, and the emotional connection he has with audiences have played a major role in bringing massive footfall to theatres.“
Censor delays and piracy failed to stop ‘Jana Nayagan’ box office run
The producer’s comments echo what director H. Vinoth had said earlier about the film’s difficult release. Vinoth had expressed disappointment that the film received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC, believing a U/A rating would have helped it reach an even wider audience. ‘Jana Nayagan’ was originally planned for a Pongal release but finally reached cinemas on July 23 after a six-month delay linked to certification issues. Before release, the makers also suffered a major setback when the entire film was leaked online months in advance. Despite these obstacles, the action drama crossed the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide within just four days and continues to enjoy a strong run at the box office.
