With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ gearing up for its release this December, director Joe Russo is giving fans some homework. Besides rolling out a list of 15 Marvel films and television shows to watch before they can watch the epic conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, the Russo brothers have now hinted that revisiting ‘Avengers: Endgame’ or watching the upcoming release titled ‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ is ‘required’ for audiences hoping to fully understand the upcoming MCU film.

Speaking to Fandango, Joe explained how the upcoming theatrical re-release, will help establish the connection between the film fans first watched in 2019 and the upcoming movie. The filmmaker told Fandango that the re-release “is going to connect the story of the two movies. There’s a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out.”He further stressed, “I think it’s important to see Endgame again in theatres for two reasons: One, you’re going to have a lot of fun … and two, I think it’s required viewing for following the story in Doomsday.”Joe’s brother and directing partner Anthony Russo also teased, “If you saw Endgame when it was originally released, you couldn’t see this coming.”

‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ will have a runtime of 185 minutes, with approximately four minutes of additional footage. The re-release will also feature a sneak peek at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and is scheduled to hit theatres on September 25.

The re-release could also have a major impact on the box office record books. ‘Endgame’ currently has an estimated total collection of approximately USD 2.79 billion worldwide.
