Veteran actor and acting coach Jayati Bhatia has opened up about an unusual workshop exercise she conducted with Deepika Padukone ahead of ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’. She revealed that the actor once hurled abuses from a balcony to vent built-up anger during preparations for the film. Here’s what exactly happened.

Speaking to Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Jayati Bhatia recalled asking Deepika Padukone to stand on a balcony overlooking a local bhel stall as part of the workshop. She shared, “I told her, ‘Stand there. Don’t look at anyone, but abuse the man below as loudly as you can.'” According to her, after she demonstrated the exercise first, Deepika stepped up without hesitation.She added, “And where I had stopped, she continued with another 50 abuses that I had never even heard before. Not for a second did she worry that someone might look up or recognise her. By then, she was already Deepika Padukone… but she had absolutely no fear.”

Jayati noted that this fearlessness came after Deepika’s performance in ‘Cocktail’ had already boosted her confidence as an actor.

Recalling their first meeting at Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s office, Jayati said Deepika approached the process with complete dedication, finishing what was meant to be a seven-day workshop in just four days. She revealed that Deepika was dealing with depression at the time, but her focus made it barely noticeable.Impressed by her commitment, Jayati told the filmmaker that Deepika was ready for the role. She concluded, “After four days, I told Mr Bhansali, ‘Sir, you don’t need to open her up anymore’. She really wanted to do the film.”

Deepika Padukone’s next projects

Deepika Padukone will next feature in Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘King’, which is set to hit theatres during Christmas this year. She also has Allu Arjun’s ‘Raaka’ lined up for release.
