Japanese child pop star Hirata Runa has passed away at the age of eight following a heart complication related to influenza. The young performer was associated with the Nagoya-based girls’ idol project DIANNA Project and had appeared on stage only days before her demise.Runa passed away at around 4 a.m. on September 25, according to a message shared through her official X account. DIANNA Project confirmed the news in an announcement dated September 28, stating that the young trainee had suffered from myocarditis associated with influenza. Her wake and funeral were conducted privately with close relatives, in accordance with her family’s wishes.

According to DIANNA Project, Runa’s passing followed myocarditis associated with an influenza infection. Myocarditis involves inflammation of the heart muscle and can sometimes occur following an infection.The agency did not disclose further medical details and asked the public to respect the family’s privacy by avoiding individual enquiries, media requests and questions on social media regarding the circumstances. The statement read, “We regret to inform you that Hirata Runa … has passed away due to myocarditis resulting from influenza. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the fans who supported Hirata Runa and to all those involved who have provided assistance. Out of respect for the feelings of the bereaved family, we kindly ask that you refrain from making individual inquiries, interviews, or asking questions on social media regarding this matter.”
Runa’s family shares an emotional farewell
Following the announcement, Runa’s family used her official social media account to thank her fellow idols, fans, agency and everyone who supported her journey as a performer.Reflecting on the importance of performing in her young life, the family wrote: “One third of Runa’s life was spent as an idol … please let her remain in a corner of your hearts as an eternal idol.”They also expressed their gratitude to those who had been kind to Runa, writing: “To all the fellow idols who were kind to Runa during her lifetime, to the fans who supported Runa, to everyone at the agency who made Runa an idol, and to all the people who were involved with Runa, thank you very much.”
