Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ continued its second-week run with lower collections on Friday. The figure is 12.3% lower than its Day 8 collection of Rs 4.05 crore.The film was screened in 4,165 shows across the country on Friday. ‘Jana Nayagan’ has collected Rs 157.10 crore net in India. Its India gross collection now stands at Rs 183.45 crore.The overseas market also added to the film’s total. It earned Rs 2 crore gross outside India on Day 9. That takes the film’s overseas gross to Rs 85 crore. The worldwide gross collection has now reached Rs 268.45 crore.

Tamil version continues to lead collections

The Tamil version remained the biggest contributor to the film’s earnings. It collected Rs 3.20 crore on Day 9. The Hindi version added Rs 30 lakhs, while the Telugu version contributed Rs 5 lakhs.Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 3.25 crore gross on Friday. Karnataka followed with Rs 27 lakhs while Kerala added Rs 20 lakhs. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed Rs 5 lakhs. The rest of India brought in Rs 35 lakhs, taking the day’s India gross collection to Rs 4.12 crore.

Occupancy improves during evening and night shows

The Tamil version recorded an overall occupancy of 24.96%.Morning shows registered 15.46% occupancy while afternoon shows improved to 18.85%. Evening occupancy stood at 30% and night shows recorded the highest attendance at 35.54%.On the other hand, the Hindi version reported an overall occupancy of 14.77%. Morning occupancy stood at 5.33%, while afternoon shows registered 12.33%. Evening occupancy came in at 9.42%, before increasing to 22.25% during the night shows.

Karnataka protest affects scheduled screenings

Meanwhile, ‘Jana Nayagan’ also faced trouble in Karnataka. Scheduled screenings at Gurushree Theatre in Mandya were cancelled following protests by members of a Kannada organisation.According to Mathrubhumi, the protest was linked to the Cauvery Water Regulation Authority’s (CWRA) recent direction asking Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.Demonstrators gathered outside the theatre and raised slogans opposing the order. As tensions increased, some protesters reportedly attempted to enter the theatre premises. Police personnel intervened and prevented them from entering.

Posters removed as theatre cancels shows

The protest later intensified outside the theatre. Demonstrators reportedly tore down posters of ‘Jana Nayagan’ and demanded that the film should not be screened.
