Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ is approaching another significant box office achievement as its theatrical run continues across multiple languages. The action entertainer is closing in on Vijay’s ‘The Greatest of All Time’ (The GOAT) in Tamil Nadu. With its state gross collection nearing the existing benchmark, the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has another major record within reach. The film has also maintained a strong worldwide total, although its daily domestic earnings have started showing signs of a slowdown.
‘Jailer 2’ worldwide box office collection
According to Sacnilk, ‘Jailer 2’ collected Rs 3.35 crore in India net collections on Day 20 from 8,050 shows. Its cumulative domestic net earnings have reached Rs 463.05 crore, while the India gross collection stands at Rs 541.65 crore.The film earned an additional Rs 1 crore from overseas markets on Tuesday. This takes its international gross collection to Rs 275.25 crore. With contributions from domestic and international territories, the Rajinikanth starrer has accumulated Rs 816.90 crore worldwide.
Vijay’s ‘The GOAT’ record within reach
One of the biggest talking points surrounding the film is its performance in Tamil Nadu. ‘Jailer 2’ has collected Rs 210.45 crore gross in the state after 18 days. It now needs another Rs 6.80 crore to overtake Vijay’s ‘The Greatest of All Time’.The Tamil version of ‘Jailer 2’ remained the biggest contributor on Day 20, earning Rs 1.93 crore from 3,624 shows. The Hindi version collected Rs 80 lakh through 3,420 shows. Meanwhile, the Telugu and Kannada versions added Rs 45 lakh and Rs 17 lakh, respectively.Across all languages, the film recorded an average collection of Rs 4,161 per show. Its daily India net earnings declined by 1.5% compared with the previous day’s Rs 3.40 crore.
Weekly and third-week box office performance
The film opened strongly, collecting Rs 334.35 crore net and Rs 391.55 crore gross during its first eight days. Its second week contributed another Rs 95.55 crore in India net collections, registering a 71.4% decline from the opening period.During Days 16–20, the action entertainer added Rs 33.15 crore net to its domestic total. Its third weekend, however, offered some relief. The film generated Rs 30.70 crore in India gross collections between Friday and Sunday. Its daily gross earnings increased from Rs 6.40 crore on Friday to Rs 11.30 crore on Saturday and Rs 13 crore on Sunday. This represented a 103.1% recovery between Friday and Sunday.
Theatre occupancy and movie plot
The Tamil 2D version registered 14.62% overall occupancy on Day 20. Morning shows recorded 12.38%, while afternoon and evening screenings registered 14.92% and 14.85%, respectively. Night shows performed best at 16.31%.The Hindi version recorded 11.26% occupancy, while the Telugu version registered 16.08%. For the Hindi release, morning, afternoon, evening and night occupancy stood at 8.25%, 7.92%, 9.08% and 17.42%, respectively.
