Radhika Apte has opened up about a deeply distressing experience from her career, recalling how the leak of an intimate scene from one of her films left her too frightened to step outside her home for several days. In a recent conversation, the actor spoke about the challenges surrounding on-screen intimacy and how the consequences of a leaked scene can extend far beyond social media, affecting an actor’s personal life and sense of security.
Radhika Apte recalls being unable to leave home after intimate scene leak
Speaking to India Today, Radhika explained that the fallout from such leaks can become much more immediate and personal than public criticism online. Recalling the aftermath of the incident, she said she was afraid to leave her home for four days. The actor emphasised that the consequences of an intimate scene being leaked can affect an individual’s everyday life, particularly when strangers begin bringing their reactions into the person’s private space.“We were talking about being able to do intimate scenes, but once something I had done was leaked, I literally couldn’t step out of the house for four days. The problem is that it can come home very quickly. Your doorbell can ring, and somebody can be outside your house because they felt offended. So, it’s not that easy. It’s much more complicated,” she said.
Radhika Apte says leaked clip affected people around her
Radhika also recalled how the leaked video began affecting people in her immediate circle. According to the actor, the incident became a topic of conversation among people she interacted with regularly, making the situation increasingly difficult to navigate. Her account highlights how the circulation of leaked intimate material can have consequences that extend beyond the person featured in the footage, affecting their professional and personal relationships as well.“But when it came to sexuality, the clip of mine leaked, and it became really difficult. I remember my stylist telling me that her driver couldn’t stop looking at the clip and kept asking her, ‘You’re going to her house?’ My watchman had seen it as well. Things like that started happening, and it became very difficult to deal with,” she said.
Radhika Apte turned to her staff amid safety concerns
The experience also left Radhika concerned about her personal safety. At the time, she was living alone in an apartment, and she said she eventually spoke directly to her driver and spot dada about the leaked clip and her need for protection.“I eventually called my driver and my spot Dada and told them, ‘There is a clip that has been leaked. Have you seen it? Because if you have not, I’ll send it to you. Watch it. If you’re okay with it, then you have to protect me. Otherwise, do not work with me. Here’s your salary; you can go’,” she recalled.Radhika said their response helped reassure her during what was an extremely unsettling period.“And they both said, ‘We will look after you.’ I was really scared because I was living alone in an apartment at the time. So yes, it can get quite tricky,” she added.
