From director Alex Gibney‘s mind, ‘Musk’ is an upcoming documentary film that he made about the businessman and former public official, Elon Musk. The first look and new trailer for the film have officially been released online ahead of its premiere at the 83rd Venice Film Festival. The film offers a look into the trillionaire’s life and the empire he has built over the years. Elon Musk did not participate in the making of this documentary in any way.

The first trailer for ‘Musk’ was released online only hours before the film will premiere at the 83rd Venice Film Festival. The trailer starts off with visuals of a rocket taking off into space playing on the screen. In the background, various comments and phrases from media outlets describing Musk are playing in the background.In the trailer, many phrases are used to describe him, which include “possibly the greatest living inventor,” “the real-life Iron Man,” “chaotic, random, capricious,” and “manifestly cruel and selfish.” The title card then shows, reading the phrase “Earth’s most unchecked man,” while another voiceover describes him as “a man who has lost his mind.” The rocket then lands with an explosion, revealing the official name of the film.The film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 8 and will then premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 14.

About the ‘Musk’ documentary

The film has been written and directed by Alex Gibney, who has worked on other projects like ‘Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room’ and ‘The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.’ ‘Musk’ is also reported to be around four hours long. A description of the documentary on the Toronto International Film Festival page reads, “Elon Musk has amassed so much power, he’s like a character in a Marvel comic book. A short recap of his handiwork: Tesla popularised electric vehicles; Starlink expanded the reach of the internet; Twitter bowed to his takeover; and DOGE radically transformed the US government.”It further adds, “After nearly four years of work, Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney delivers his most ambitious and epic documentary, seeking to understand the history and motivations of the ultimate tech bro.”In 2023, when the film was first confirmed, Musk himself had denounced it and posted a comment about it on X (formerly known as Twitter), writing, “It’s a hit piece.” Gibney replied soon after, writing, “How would you know?”The film will officially be released on October 16, 2026.
