Dolly Parton’s sister Stella Parton is remembering the late country music icon’s final act of kindness before breathing her last on Tuesday.In an emotional tribute shared on her social media handle, Stella revealed that Dolly, who passed away at 80, following a brief battle with cancer, had told her that even if there was no hope for her recovery, she would allow her medical team to try experimental drugs that could potentially help others in the future.

In a heartfelt tribute, Stella honoured the life and memory of Dolly, writing, “My big sister Dolly got her wings this past Tuesday. If anyone gets to heaven I’m sure she made it right on time. I know she’s showing out big time, in all her sparkles and shine. That was my sister’s way.”

Stella reveals her and Dolly’s morning rituals

Opening up about their bond, she said, “Every Tuesday about this time, before the sun came up and the world was still asleep, she and I, for many years, had our coffee together over the phone. Being little farm girls we’ve continued to be early risers.” She went on to add, “We would catch up on gossip, as sisters do, and drink coffee and make plans, as it has always been our way.”

Stella shared her sister’s final act of selflessness, revealing how she turned her cancer battle into a fight for a cure, she shared, “My sister was one of the most generous, thoughtful and kind people I’ve ever known. What the world saw is exactly who she was, so much so, she told me recently that if there was no hope for her, she would still allow her medical team to try experimental drugs in the hope of helping others in the future.”She urged those looking to honour Dolly’s legacy to “show more kindness, lift others up, and give more of your time and resources, as she continued to do to the very end.”

Stella Parton encourages fans to follow Dolly Parton’s example

“Dolly loved the world and everyone in it,” Stella wrote. “I would criticize and complain about it and she would laugh and say; ‘shoot Tedda, we’ve got more important things to do than worry about their silly a****. She was right and proved it everyday,” Stella said as she recalled her sister’s positive outlook.The singer’s sister also thanked fans and well-wishers who have shared messages of love and respect for Dolly and the family following her death.Stella concluded her tribute saying, “She left the world a better place by being in it, so let’s follow her example. Love and respect to all of you.”

Dolly Parton’s family

Stella was one of Dolly Parton’s 11 siblings. According to People, the singer’s siblings also included Willadeene, David, Coy, Robert Jr., Cassie, Larry, Floyd, twins Freidda and Rachel, and Randy, a singer-songwriter who died of cancer in 2021.Dolly’s brother Coy died in July 2026 at the age of 82.
