‘Singham Returns’ actor Dayanand Shetty has made a fresh claim about Bollywood’s entourage culture. He said that some stars bring their pets to shoots, complete with makeup. His remarks have revived the discussion on how many people stars keep around them. Let’s learn more about it in detail.
What Dayanand Shetty said about star behaviour
In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Dayanand Shetty was asked about star entourages and how actors behave on set. He said, “That is the type of upbringing they have. They think that to show they are stars, they need to act this way.”
Dogs with nannies, sunglasses and makeup
The ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ actor claimed that several stars call their pets to the set and spend time with them between shots. He shared, “Lots of stars will bring their dogs on the set. In the middle of the shoot, they will ask that their dog be brought to them, and they will spend some time playing with the dog. The dog will have their nanny to walk them and feed them. The dog will be dressed well and wear sunglasses. They also put some makeup on the dog and bring them.“Asked what he thinks about it, the actor said, “The dog is really lucky. If you think about it too hard, then it will hurt you. Otherwise it won’t bother you.”
Entourage costs have been under fire for months
This is not the first time the issue has come up. Anurag Kashyap, Komal Nahta and Shoojit Sircar have earlier criticised the growing expenses linked to star teams. Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, John Abraham and Jackie Shroff have also spoken on the topic. They agreed that a large team is not needed and said some actors keep far too many people around them.
Priyadarshan’s strong criticism
Filmmaker Priyadarshan recently attacked the practice as well, calling it the “worst thing in Bollywood”. He said South Indian cinema does not have this culture and that even where entourages exist, they are not allowed on set. He also noted that some members of Bollywood stars’ teams earn more than veterans like the late actor Asrani did.
