Ben Affleck calls ‘Justice League’ reshoots the ‘low point’ of his career; claims Zack Snyder’s daughter’s death by suicide was used as an ‘excuse’ to replace him

Actor Ben Affleck is spilling the beans about his time working on the DC superhero film ‘Justice League’. Getting candid during a candid chat on a podcast, the actor described the reshoots for ‘Justice League’ as the “low point of my career.”As reported by Variety, Affleck made the comments during an appearance on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, while reflecting on his experience working on the film, which saw Joss Whedon take over directing duties after Zack Snyder stepped away following the tragic death of his daughter. Ben shared, “The experience of ‘Justice League’ was so negative for lots of different reasons, some of which have to do with where I was at personally and some of which had to do with the tragedy that happened at that time.“Sharing his learnings from the production, he added, “I saw how not to make a movie like that, which is where the studio is at odds with the filmmaker. You are really making a mistake.”During the chat, Affleck also expressed his relief that Snyder eventually got to release his ‘director’s cut’ of the film that was heavily slammed when Joss took over the reins. He said, “I was really glad and gratified that Zack got to release [his version via the Snyder Cut]. That was f**king great. I was really happy for him.”Going on to slam the way the studios handled Snyder’s personal tragedy, he said, “That was shitty, him being taken off that movie and the reshoots that we did. If you want the low point of my career, it was that.” He went on to add, “Somebody’s death by suicide eclipses everything. The way in which that was, I thought, used as an excuse [to replace Zack] was one of the shittiest things I’ve ever seen. It was so gross.”While opening up about the ‘gross’ atmosphere on the sets, the actor also revealed that he too was going through a personal low. He said, “I was drinking too much… and I got divorced. It was a difficult time for me personally, but those things, while painful, did not impact that movie.”Snyder had previously estimated in an interview with Variety that Whedon’s reshoots involved approximately 60 new pages of material. The theatrical release of ‘Justice League’ received largely negative reviews and fan reactions.
