Challenges faced by Max Budgen while drawing his 1,300-page flip book

Creating the flip book was not always easy for Max. He explained that flip books were usually designed to tell short, snappy, and interesting stories. As he continued adding pages, keeping the ideas flowing became difficult. By around page 500, he was becoming bored and running out of ideas. However, he reminded himself that world records were not meant to be easy.He decided to persevere and continue working on the project despite the difficulties. He said, “Instead of feeling an intense burst of emotion on final completion of the project, I think I felt a sense of pride at key milestones throughout. For example, I’d never gone beyond 300 pages before, so that was definitely a moment for me.”

Reaching 1,000 pages was a turning point for Max Budgen

For Max, creating the flip book was as rewarding as completing it. Rather than experiencing one intense burst of emotion when he finished the project, he felt a sense of pride at key milestones along the way.Reaching 300 pages was particularly significant because he had never created a flip book that long before. The progress gave him a reason to recognise how far he had come. Reaching 1,000 pages was another memorable moment.Max said, “Page 1,000 was pretty incredible, because I’d never thought I’d make it that far.”These milestones helped him stay motivated throughout the project. For him, the achievement was not limited to completing all 1,300 pages. The progress he made along the way was equally important and rewarding.

Max Budgen advised young record-breakers to remain committed

After spending more than three weeks completing the flip book, Max shared advice for young people who wanted to become record holders before adulthood. He said, “If you want to be a record holder before you’re an adult, you have to be tenacious. Commitment is vital, especially when it comes to something like this”.“I also think a sense of humour helped me along the way quite a bit, especially seeing the bright side when things went terribly wrong.”
