Veteran actor Annu Kapoor has once again spoken candidly about the Hindi film industry, revealing that he is not familiar with the work of several contemporary Bollywood stars, including Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra. In a recent interview, Kapoor said he does not know the actors personally and admitted that he would not recognise them if they were to meet him. While he said he knows Ranbir because he is the son of late actor Rishi Kapoor, he added that he has never watched the work of the other actors mentioned.

Annu Kapoor says he doesn’t know Ranbir, Ranveer or Sidharth

During an interview with Bhanu Pathak on his YouTube channel, Annu Kapoor was asked about several prominent names in contemporary Hindi cinema. The host mentioned Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra. Responding to the question, Kapoor said, “Naa shakal se jaanta hu, naa personally jaanta hu; woh mere samne aajaye toh mujhe pata bhi nahi hai…”Kapoor went on to clarify that he does not follow their work closely.“Woh kaun hai mujhe maalum bhi nahi hai. Ranbir toh Rishi Kapoor ka ladka hai na… isiliye main jaanta hu… aur baaki… maine kabhi unka kaam kabhi dekha nahi hai, kaise bolte hai, kaise khade hote hai, mujhe kya pata ki kya baat karte hai,” he said.Kapoor’s comments suggest that his familiarity with Ranbir stems primarily from the actor’s family background, rather than from having closely followed his filmography.

Annu Kapoor questions criticism of successful stars

During the conversation, Kapoor was also asked about situations where veteran actors such as Naseeruddin Shah have made critical observations about major stars including Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.Responding to the broader idea of established actors commenting on successful stars, Kapoor questioned why criticism is often directed at people who have already achieved significant popularity.“Jab bhi bologe, nakaratmak hi bologe. Iss country mein tumhe bhi aham bolne wale bahut log hain, ki tum aham actor ho. Unke drishtikon se satya kuch nahi ho jata,” he said.Kapoor further pointed out that it is audiences who ultimately determine which actors become stars.“Janta ne toh unko superstars banaya hai. Woh inn successful star ke baare mein hi kyun bolte hain?” he added. His comments appeared to emphasise the distinction between an individual’s personal opinion and the larger public perception of an actor’s popularity and success.

Annu Kapoor’s perspective on contemporary Bollywood

Known for his outspoken views and decades-long association with Hindi cinema, Annu Kapoor has frequently discussed the changing nature of the film industry. His latest remarks offer an insight into his relatively limited engagement with the work of some younger Bollywood actors. While Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra are among the prominent names of contemporary Hindi cinema, Kapoor made it clear that he does not closely follow their careers or films.
