Friendship Day is the perfect occasion to revisit some of Bollywood’s most cherished off-screen friendships. Among the most celebrated is the bond shared by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Their friendship has remained one of the industry’s most admired relationships for decades.Together, the duo delivered several memorable films, including ‘Baazigar’, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and many more. Their collaborations, especially with filmmaker Karan Johar, helped redefine romance and friendship for an entire generation. Even years later, audiences continue to associate the pair with some of Hindi cinema’s most iconic love stories.

When Shah Rukh jokingly warned Aamir Khan about Kajol

One of the funniest stories involving the duo surfaced during the promotions of ‘Dilwale’. Shah Rukh Khan recalled how Aamir Khan had once approached him to ask about Kajol before agreeing to work with her. At the time, Shah Rukh decided to play a prank and gave Aamir a completely misleading impression. As quoted by IBTimes, Shah Rukh said, “When I was working with her in ‘Baazigar,’ Aamir asked me about her as he wanted to work with her. I left him a message saying, ‘She is very bad, no focus, you will not be able to work with her’. And then I saw the rushes [first prints made of a film after a period of shooting] in the evening. I kept calling Aamir to clarify. I told him, ‘I don’t know what it is but she is magical on the screen’.”Beyond the humorous story, Shah Rukh has often spoken about what makes Kajol such a unique performer. He has repeatedly praised her instinctive acting style and believes that her honesty as an actor sets her apart from many others in the industry. He added, “Kajol is not technical. She is an honest actor and that’s a great quality. My daughter [Suhana] wants to become an actress and I would want her to learn that. I hope I learn that from Kajol. I can’t explain it but she is something else on screen.”

Kajol recalls how their friendship actually began

Kajol has also shared her own memories about meeting Shah Rukh for the first time. According to the actress, their friendship started in a rather unusual way on a film set.She recalled, “I remember Shah Rukh and other actors had a huge hangover when they came on the sets and I was jabbering away in Marathi to his make-up guy. They were like, ‘What is that voice? It is going to split open our heads’. He was very grumpy but I kept chatting and finally, he said, ‘Will you please shut up?’. I think that’s how we became friends.”The story has since become a fan favourite because it perfectly captures the playful nature of their relationship.

An iconic partnership that still lives on

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol last appeared together in Rohit Shetty‘s ‘Dilwale’. Although the film received mixed reactions, audiences were delighted to see the beloved pair reunite on the big screen once again.Shah Rukh Khan’s next major release is ‘King’
