NEW DELHI: India is looking to attract at least three large semiconductor equipment makers and five major suppliers of chemicals and gases under Semicon 2.0. Union electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said he would judge the programme’s success by whether India could bring those companies in.He described the target as ambitious, saying the precision required in manufacturing equipment and materials made it difficult to build a supplier base. Vaishnaw said the experience of the first phase, when companies went from scepticism to setting up plants in India, gave him confidence that the country could attract these suppliers.
