CBFC Clears Riteish Deshmukh’s ‘Raja Shivaji’ with minor changes; gets U/A 16+ certificate, child violence scene replaced
After successfully navigating the censor process, Riteish Deshmukh’s historical drama ‘Raja Shivaji’ has been awarded a U/A 16+ rating. Spanning over three hours, the film underwent slight modifications, such as the removal of a scene depicting child violence. Additionally, the creators took time to clarify historical contexts and refine the film’s title to ensure a seamless release on May 1.

Riteish Deshmukh’s historical drama ‘Raja Shivaji’ has completed its censor process ahead of its May 1 theatrical release. The Marathi version runs for 195.05 minutes, which means the film is 3 hours, 15 minutes, and 5 seconds long. The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared the film with a U/A 16+ certificate after asking the makers to make a few changes, including replacing a visual of child violence.

‘Raja Shivaji’ gets U/A 16+ certificate

As reported by Bollywood Hungama, the censor process for ‘Raja Shivaji’ was completed on April 24. The outlet stated that the CBFC’s Examining Committee asked the makers to modify the disclaimer with clearer and stronger wording, along with a voiceover.The makers also had to add a clarification for choosing the title ‘Raja Shivaji’. They were asked to submit documents for all historical references used in the film. The CBFC also sought a proper script matching the film’s dialogues and songs.

CBFC asks for changes in ‘Raja Shivaji’

The board further instructed the team to add specific dates for all major events shown in the film. It also asked them to insert text slates for historical events.The report further added that the film faced only two minor cuts. The visuals of a small boy’s throat being slit had to be replaced with an appropriate shot. The makers were also asked to add audio for muted visuals.With a runtime of 195 minutes, ‘Raja Shivaji’ joins the growing list of long Indian films that have crossed the three-hour mark. The list includes ‘Animal’, which ran for 203 minutes, ‘Pushpa 2 – The Rule’ at 200 minutes, ‘Dhurandhar’ at 214 minutes, ‘Dhurandhar The Revenge’ at 229 minutes, and ‘Border 2’ at 199 minutes.‘Raja Shivaji’ stars Riteish Deshmukh as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The cast also includes Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Bhagyashree, Sachin Khedekar, Amole Gupte, and Jitendra Joshi. Riteish and Genelia’s Mumbai Film Company produces the film with Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios.
